The Winter Olympics 2010

The Winter Olympics started last Friday with the Opening ceremonies. We watched "Couples Retreat" on DVD that night. After seeing that movie, perhaps we should have watched the opening ceremonies (just kidding, it wasn't THAT bad). Over the next few days of competition, we still did not tune it. I have seen some of the medal tallies and results on various Internet pages, but I have not watched a single thing. I have seen friends make comments about the Olympics on Facebook, but I still have not tuned in. I don't really know why. I do love sports and, let's face it, there is really not much else on TV to watch.

Yesterday. Team USA had a record day (thank you, MSN.com). The USA got more medals in the Winter Olympics yesterday that any other previous day. I was intrigued so I watched Lindsay Vonn's downhill run and Shaun White's half pipe skills. I was so impressed by the pure athleticism and the emotional charge of these two athletes. It made me want to see more. I used to watch the Olympics every year. It is sad that it seems like there is not enough time to watch the world come together in celebration of incredible athleticism. I hope I can catch more in the second half of the games.

Have you been watching the Winter Olympics?

I live in Vancouver so the olympics are right outside my window...it's amazing here right now minus the loser protesters who think smashing in store windows and harassing people just because they are mad they did squat with their life,,,I guess they don't realize it's boring and accept that the olympics aren't gonna stop just cause these people think that vandalism and being an idiot are a new olympic event....anyway, I didnt watch much at all last year but this year ive watched lots...it is beautiful weather here too and even though im American from Texas, I live here now and will never go back....the scenery here is just one beautiful reason to stay....you should watch the girls hockey *my daughter plays hockey* ...not sure my point to this email but I thought your blog was adorable...my name is Angela...hope you had a great day....im trying to finish up my new website but im stumped and hope to start a mini business of some sort...who knows take care of you...lol www.mypinkplayground.net

Hi Angela - thanks for leaving your comment with a bird's eye view of the Olympics. I have heard that Vancouver is an amazing city. I hope to visit someday. I would love to run the half marathon there.

I watched a bit of the ladies' downhill skiing (Lindsey Vonn followed by a number of spectacular falls). I'm not really that interested in the Winter Olympics, and that luge death didn't make them any more appealing. I think I'll wait for 2012.

Tinsie - 2012 should be pretty exciting, particularly for you!
